1944 Warsaw & Ghetto Uprisings – We Won’t Die as Slaves

My Kochana Eve, warrior by my side,

The goal of the Warsaw Uprising of 1944 was to rid the Polish Nation of the Nazi German crooked cross (swastika) and avert subjection to the Russian double cross of communism. Though the Poles and Russians were both enemies of Nazi Germany they each had very different objectives in driving the Nazis from Poland. The Polish did not trust the Russians who, at Katyn Forest, had killed 22,000 Polish army officers, soldiers, religious and political leaders, teachers or anyone who could contribute to the reconstruction of Poland after the eradication of Nazi tyranny. The Home Army wanted a democratic capitalist Poland that was allied with the west. Soviet dictator Stalin wanted to make Poland a communist country that was allied with Russia. Stalin had stopped all Russian – Polish relations in April 1943 when Nazi Germany told the world about the Katyn Massacre of Polish army officers. Stalin refused to admit that he ordered the killings. The Polish home army feared that if the Red army freed them from Nazi tyranny that the Allies would not accept the Polish government in London after the war. When the Russian Red army advanced to the Vistula River, the Polish Home front began the fight for liberation. However, instead of advancing to assist the Polish Army against their common enemy, the Russians decided to use the Germans to destroy the Poles who would have revolted against subjection to Russian communism. They knew that the Polish people wanted to be a sovereign nation again. It was a Russian double cross which would rob Poland of personal freedom until the collapse of the Communist Russian Soviet Socialist Union. After the outmanned and outgunned Polish Home Army was defeated, the Russians advanced against a better but weakened German Army which lost 8,000 good soldiers and expended much ammunition and weapons against the heroic Polish Freedom fighters. Stalin arrogantly thought that he had conquered the proud Polish People but God would use them to bring the Russian Soviet Union to its knees and ultimate financial devastation. Antoni and Antonina understood all to well that Russian totalitarianism would follow the end of the war. Time was short. For two or three short years, innovators and entrepreneurs would be rewarded for hard work, long hours and inventiveness. They had just enough time to produce enough wealth to purchase the land and build the home that Antoni had promised to his lovely Antonina. Much had to be done before the suffocating communist redistribution state would make all Poles equally poor while simultaneously siphoning off the riches of Polish labor for the Russian Political Elite. Your parents saw hopelessness but they had faith to trust God and work for the benefit of themselves, their family and their country. The Most High God blessed the works of their hands and He prospered them to glorify His Holy Name. God made them a blessing to all who knew them. We are blessed because they never quit when there was no human way to win without God. They stood firm, cleaved to Him and persevered in His truth and promises. And in His chosen time, the only True God enabled them to prevail. All glory, praise and honor to His Holy Name.

May we learn from the heroic actions of Antoni and Antonina, Kochany
