Hike Up Pikes Peak

My sweetheart Ewa,

Before we boarded the train at the foot of Pikes Peak, we grabbed a hot dog and drink while as usual you and your niece perused the gift shop. The foot of Pikes Peak is about 1 mile in elevation and our journey would take us to an elevation of 14,395 ft. The train was packed and we were fortunate that our group could stay together. The train slowly climbed up the steep, winding track and the tour guide pointed out the remains of historic structures as well as the view which the writer of the song, ‘America the Beautiful’ was penned. No wonder she was inspired to such a song! We rolled into the tree line and witnessed the absence of mature trees and grass which couldn’t grow in the cold and short growing season at the higher elevations. When we arrived at the end of the track at the top of the mountain we were treated to such a panoramic view of the Rockie Mountains and the splendid view of the peaceful valley and mountain side below. The air was so thin that one was aware of breathing deeper to fill the lungs with more air to inhale the required oxygen. It was great strolling through the mountain top gift shop. It was another of many high points of our life together. Let’s do that again! Shall we?
Maybe we can backpack up the mountain. Even if we only climbed half way up, imagine the exhileration and accomplishment! Our zeal for nature, clean mountain streams and viewing eagles, hawks, and wild life will stimulate us in our plans.
Like Pikes Peak, our love gives me a mountain top view of life as we back pack through each new adventure of daily living. I love you today as always and I propose that we seriously consider a return trip to Colorado to hike up Pikes Peak. The Lord be with you, Kocham Cie, Kochany
