The swans swimming on the lake is one of the most prominent reasons why we were drawn to this neighborhood. For the first five years at our lake home perhaps a dozen of these graceful white birds called our little lake their home. The past few years we have seen only three who come intermittently throughout the year. Though we still have the ducks and geese in plentiful numbers, we miss the constant presence of the larger family of swans. Like friends who come and go in our lives, we must adjust to the absence of the pleasure of watching the swans gliding effortlessly on the lake. We daily give thanks for our lovely lake where we swim and kayak in the summer and walk across on the frozen surface ice in winter. We still have the constant that surpasses all others. We have each other and a love that gives meaning to all we have together. If all we own should be lost tomorrow, we will find peace, contentment and comfort in our confidence and hope which comes from a love that will not die or wither in the scorching heat of trial or spiritual testing. The loving God who brought us together and blessed our union abides in our marriage. During short stints of distress, our loving Lord actually strengthens our union as he draws us closer to him until the storm passes. He fills every void of our human weakness. God, you and myself are a union of three and like the three swans on the lake, we abide in peace, happiness and harmony. Our god is the eternal heart beating in the center of our love and marriage and we praise His Holy Name for His grace.
