The Shops on Our Sixth Day
Eve, my perpetual bargain seeker,
We were at sea on our sixth day. It was unbelievable that we enjoyed an unheard of sixth complete day of 100% visibility and an 82 degree temperature. We took an early walk on the promenade before breakfast. After eating, Ewa found a large room near the breakfast dining room with discount sweaters, sweat shirts, hats, books, gifts and souvenirs. We decided to go to the pool in the afternoon but we found a group tour of the ships galley where our meals were prepared. We saw food art at the end of the tour and snapped some pictures. On or way back to our room we walked through the fifth and sixth floors where all the shops were having a sale. Virtually everything was on sale. Ewa just had to shop! She had refrained from buying on all our shore excursions except for a few items at Skagway. This was very unusual. All the restraint of the past 5 days were released and finding the prices exceptional she indulged in retail therapy! I like to watch her shop. Ewa is absolute focus. She can spot a bargain and she does not hesitate to capture that opportunity. Like a scientist studying the data, she carefully analyzes each price and item. Then like a lioness pouncing on the prey, she scoops up the rewards of her work. After returning to our room, we got into our swimming suits and spent some quality time sunning on the deck and soaking in the hot tub. It was our most relaxing day. We met a woman who looked like Sally Fields who was born in the city of my birth and we discussed much of the history that only a former native could remember. She even sounded like her. When we returned to our room, it was time to dress for dinner. We had watched a few of the onboard shows. I wanted to see the Motown Show that evening scheduled at 7:00 pm and we left dinner at 6:30. I told Ewa that we had to be early to get a seat and we hurried to get to the theater. I made a tactical error by leading Ewa past a jewelry sale on the sixth floor and she stopped to look. A minute turned into five, then ten and finally in spite of my many protests we left only to arrive to a filled theater. It was truly a disappointment for me. I did express my displeasure but we didn’t allow it to spoil our evening. We missed seeing the wife of one of our dinner friends who was called on stage to be part of the show. We spent some time on the deck where an outdoor film was being played. Then we retired to our room and Ewa packed some of our clothes to prepare for departure. It was another great experience punctuated by the shops on our sixth day.
Let’s redeem our time like we did on our cruise, Kochany
