The Ruins of Unspunnen Castle

Posted on Nov 8, 2020 by Randy Suits   No Comments Yet | Posted in Uncategorized
My traveling mate Eve,
Nestled in a valley below Jungfrau mountain rising above the Interlaken river basin, are the ruins of Unspunnen Castle. It was the center of a 13th – 14th century fief of the Oberland barons. Unspunnen Castle and the cave castle Rotenfluh were built to guard the medieval bridge at Gsteig near Interlaken. In 1762 the castles maintenance was transfered to the administration of Interlaken and both castles were allowed to fall into disrepair. The ruins became famous through the Unspunnenfest in 1805 which led to regular cleanings and repairs of the ruins. Located just a stones’ throw from the Credo Schloss Unspunnen Hotel, the ruins are a popular site for travelers, tourists and hikers. It is interesting that continual cleanings and repairs are necessary to maintain even the ruins of a structure. Our morning kiss, the frequent hugs, the daily conversations and cuddles on the couch are forms of affection which fuel the love relationship of our living castle home. It assures that our castle home will never need cleaning or fall into disrepair like the ruins of Unspunnen Castle.
In love we serve each other, Kochany
