I Kiss Your Hand – Caluja Raczki

My Eve, whose hands I love,

I remember our first kiss, the slight hesitation as I looked into your eyes.  It was time. For all the splendor of our first kiss I recall it was awkward. Your soft delicate lips on mine were sublime but unsettling. There is a complete disarming of oneself to receive the affectionate hug and kiss of the woman you love. Every protective hedge and mental boundary falls like the walls of Jericho as love fills the void those barriers protected. As we visited with your family and friends, I took note of how old Polish friends would take the hand of a lady, kiss her hand and say, “Caluje raczki”. (I kiss your hand) Since witnessing this custom it has become my practice to kiss your hand and say to you, “Caluje raczki”. Your father also kissed the hand of your mother. He told her that ‘she was more beautiful than a movie star’. I know that he was telling the truth and so am I when I tell you the same (To jest to samo).  To kiss your hand is a small thing with such enormous meaning. It’s fitting after I have asked the blessing of God for our food to follow that with, “Caluje raczki” as I kiss your hand. It is good for me to confirm my love for you in His presence. If I could I would kiss the hand of God and our Savior Jesus for the bountiful blessings we are given daily. By kissing the hand of the woman who holds my heart in her hand, I am thanking God who gave us one to another. I will always receive your outstretched hand in mine and say as I tenderly press my lips to your hand, “Caluje raczki. Zawsze i zawsze i zawsze”. (I kiss your hand. Always and always and always).

Kocham cie, (I love you), Twoj Kochany
