A South African Shoe Planter
Kochana,
Here is an idea, which even you in your gardening expertise have not imagined. In Simontown, South Africa, an inventive gardener applied a novel idea for a flowerpot. This morning, I saw an old walking shoe with small garden plants growing in it. I walked past this small corner garden on my morning walk and observed a woman watering and weeding the plants. It caused me to think about all the times I’ve discarded so called worn out items never considering that there might still be useful life in an item even after the original intended use has expired. A shoe too worn to be useful for foot wear has a new life as a flowerpot! It reminded me of how you collect old tarnished silver, clean it and use it for our eating utensils, or decorative display. Since you are the neighborhood gardener, this is just an idea we might employ as we also have some old shoes. Your husband is pleased that you are ingenious in our everyday life for your thoughtful choices and decisions give added value to our life together. Don’t ever change, for even the shoe remained the same as a flowerpot. Only it’s use changed. It changed from being ‘walked in’ to growing life. Let the spirit of God in Christ Jesus grow in our aging vessels in new life even as a South African Shoe Planter.
Yours in love and devotion, Kochany
