An Alaskan Picnic Near Mendenhall Glacier
My darling Eve,
In July and August the long days of Alaska bring temperatures from the high 60’s to the high 80’s. As our bus drove along the roads in Skagway, we watched as Alaskans cycled, hiked, swam and picnicked. As we walked toward Mendenhall Glacier we noticed a family with three children playing on a small beach. They had been swimming in the 45 degree water. This is the highest water temperature of the Alaskan summer. The beach was just one half mile from the glacier but the children ran, jumped, played and swam on this day when the temperature was an extremely hot 81 degrees in Juneau. The vigor of youth manifests in all climates, warm or cold. The people living in the northern and southern extremes adjust to the colder climate and find that moderate temperatures like 60 to 75 degrees are hot. The people of Puerto Rico only swim in the hot summer sun. They feel it is too cold to swim the rest of the year. Tourists from the temperate climate think that the fall, winter and spring temperatures are good for sunning and swimming. We have observed the work of God in the adjustments which His creatures live in every climate on the earth. At work or play the activities of mankind glorify and please God Most High. We could adjust if we had to Kochana. If we have God with us, we can be happy and fruitful anywhere on this planet. We’ve travelled and visited much of the world and we have found the Spirit and Hand of God alive in the people, the climate and the land. Let us praise Him for His Presence in our lives. We could enjoy an Alaskan picnic near Mendenhall Glacier and maybe some day we will.
Let’s picnic soon, Kochany
