Courage and Consequence – The Assault Against Religious Freedom
My Eve, to whom I tell all my thoughts,
The deliberate government intervention in religious practices at public places (i.e. government, schools, court houses) and in the work place requires wisdom to counteract. Counteract we must for, His Word is redeeming and sets the captives of sin free. His Word is the sole true remedy for a lost and dying world which worships the works and ideals of man apart from the all knowing, life giving Creator and his Son Jesus Christ. Every government of man, which is by design rule by a few, must effectively circumvent the religious beliefs of the dominant sects, the related dogma and teachings. Since these truths are held in reverence, a government will gradually impose restrictions to the exercise of free faith. It will always be introduced in the spirit of ‘fairness and justice for all’. ‘Fairness’ is a word not found in scripture. In scripture we find mercy, truth and love. We even find justice, but fairness is a concept with an excess of personal emotion. Fairness emotes many false doctrines as rational solutions for the whole of society at the expense of sound principles of truth and justice. A law or work place policy which punishes the free speech of religious belief is anathama to any true believer in the Most high God and his Son Jesus Christ. The Word is never forced upon one who will not receive it. The forces of evil know this but the objective is to suppress free speech thereby restricting the opportunity for the captives (those spiritual prisoners who have not heard the redeeming message which sets the captives free) to hear the good news of the life giving Word of God. Those of us who have been set free from dominance of the old physical nature claim the words of the Apostle Paul who said in Ephesians 6:12, ‘We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand, therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverence and supplication for all saints.’ Those of us who have been redeemed are called to stand in the Word and spread that message which sets the captives (of sin) free. Government intrusions into religious freedom are suttle and pose as defenders of fairness and justice for all. But ‘the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.’ (Hebrews 4:12) Thus it is in our daily walk and talk with our Lord that He will direct our thoughts and bring opportunity to speak the Word of Life to those whom He has chosen and called to His service. Be not afraid (an admonition of our Lord Jesus Christ and Even Pope John Paul II) to advance under the banner of our Lord, for again it is written ‘when the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard (Jesus Christ and the Living Word of God )against him.’ And again he says, ‘My Spirit is upon you, and my words which I have put in your mouth shall not depart out of your mouth, nor out of the mouth of your seed, nor out of the mouth of your seed’s seed, says the Lord, from henceforth and forever.’ (Isiah 59: 19 & 20). He who has called us is faithful and He will deliver us from all evil intent until that day eternal in His holy presence. Until then we continue to endure in courage with the resolve to face the consequence of our trust in He who is eternal, as united we contest the assault against religious freedom.
