Eva Above All Others

My Ewa, Queen of my heart,

This morning as you sleep, I’m having my morning coffee and looking out over the lake. All is tranquil as I look at my watch and remember you asked to be awakened at 7:30 so that you could dress before the repairman came to fix our refrigerator. Mechanical devises will malfunction, break down and wear out over time but today I’m thankful that you, my precious darling, never fail me or us when break downs occur and repairs are necessary. I’ve come to rely on you for your consistency. Like a backup power system, you send forth your energy to fill the void and like a pressure relief valve you release the unsafe build up of stress which sometimes threatens to burst. So many times you are where God needs you for His needs in me and my needs in Him. May I also be where God needs me for His needs in you and your needs in Him. How many volumes of books would I write to record all that you are to the Lord and me? This moment, I proclaim to our God, that after my love of Him, for all that I need, have and want it is Ewa above all others. A few quotes from Roy Croft says much of what I want to say and am constrained by human limitations to express.

“I love you,
Not only for what you are,
But for what I am
When I am with you.

I love you,
Not only for what
You have made of yourself,
But for what
You are making of me.
I love you
For the part of me
That you bring out;
I love you
For putting your hand
Into my heaped-up heart
And passing over
All the foolish, weak things
That you can’t help
Dimly seeing there,
And for drawing out
Into the light
All the beautiful belongings
That no one else had looked
Quite far enough to find.

I love you because you
Are helping me to make
Of the lumber of my life
Not a tavern
But a temple;
Out of the works
Of my every day
Not a reproach
But a song.

I love you
Because you have done
More than any creed
Could have done
To make me good
And more than any fate
Could have done
To make me happy.
You have done it
Without a touch,
Without a word,
Without a sign.
You have done it
By being yourself.
Perhaps that is what
Being a friend means,
After all.”

You are my best friend and I confess that my choice is Ewa above all others.

I must now wake you for it’s time for us, Kochany
