Lost Springs, Wyoming – Population 1

Ewa, my travel planner,

During our drive along US Route 20 from Custer State Park in South Dakota to Cheyenne Wyoming I noticed a sign which said, ‘Lost Springs Population 1, elevation 4996′. It was strange, to say the least, but I put that bit of information in the back of my mind for future reference. Today in my research I found that Lost Springs, Wyoming is one of 4 towns in the USA with a population of 1. The other towns are New Amsterdam, Indiana, Hibberts Gore, Maine, and Erving’s Location, New Hampshire. In 1920 Lost Springs had a population of 200 who primarily worked at nearby Rosin coal mine. When the mine closed, the residents dwindled to the present 1. Ewa, if we moved there the population would become 3 and maybe I could be the town mayor. If you voted for me, then with my own vote, I would have a 67% landslide victory. At the end of my term, you could run and win by the same 67% margin. We know that God created the desolate places and that he has done some of his greatest works in isolated places. He trained Moses for 40 years on the back side of the desert, through His Son Jesus Christ he overcame the devil during the 40 days of temptation in the wilderness, in judgement for disobedience, he lead the Israelites in the wilderness of sin for 40 years and he allowed evil authorities to banish the Apostle John to the Island of Patmos where he gave the end time Revelation for future generations. We have traveled together and stayed in nice hotels but if we are ever in Wyoming again the best we can do is drive past the sign and maybe stop at the post office in town. As isolated and desolate as this little town is, I could be happy there with the Lord and you. However let us be happy with our home in its’ present location rather than in Lost Springs, Wyoming, polulation 1.
