This 1942 picture of Antonina shows the unspeakable class of a poor Polish farm girl who dared to dream and proceeded along with her husband Antoni to work hard to make that dream come true.. Isn’t she lovely! She certainly is beautiful. Is it any wonder that Antoni was instantly attracted to her? When they met, she was working for her older brother Bolek at the same shoe shop where Antoni was contracted to deliver the shoes to Germans. When they became acquainted in 1940, the attraction became stronger and their love grew. Friends and family could see the affection and pleasure they shared when they were together. It didn’t take your father long to ask her for randka (sit on a bench to talk, walk and hold hands). {Note: Only Germans could eat meat at a restaurant. Poles could eat only vegetables but Antonina knew the chef at their favorite restaurant. She would order kapusta (cabbage) and the chef would put meat on their plates and cover it with cabbage. You have to love a woman like this!} Surely when he found her, he wondered ‘why was this woman still available?’ He certainly knew that a woman of her stature would not be available for long. When you’re in love, the only solution to emptiness when you’re apart is consummation of your love. Antonina became the great hope of Antoni and he became the great hope of Antonina. They first became best friends. When they married, they each married their best friend. Antonina was lovely and delicate. She was a picture of love. She was everything Antoni desired in a woman and she was his. He had no doubts and he trusted her explicitly. My Eve, you possess all the qualities of Antonina. You came into my life and made me a new and better man. You are all that I hoped for in a woman and I thank God that He brought us together. May we always express our gratitude to God by standing strong in our love for him.
You are my love always, Kochany
