More Do It Yourself Parents Are Home Schooling

My creative do it yourself wife Eve,

When our daughter began home schooling our six grandchildren, we thought she was biting off more than she could chew. She had no teaching degree, she had no teaching experience and the children would lose a vital part of their education by the lack of interaction with other children. She and her husband were disappointed in the secular views taught, lack of adequate supervision and a strong desire to fortify and instruct moral values and religious views which are excluded in public education at all levels. Many of their friends told them that they would ruin their children’s lives. To our surprise she not only mastered the instructional skills required to teach the children but she excelled in providing our grand children strong fundamentals of knowledge with a balance of those personality, moral and religious values which make them superior citizens and servants of God. The January 30, 2012 Edition of Newsweek Magazine featured an article, written by Linda Perlstein, which reported a homeschooling increase in highly educated families. The article notes that there are approximately 300,000 homeschooled children in Americas cities, many of them children of secular, highly educated parents who thought, after observing the current public education system, that they could do it better.  It is true that most parents homeschool for moral and/or religious reasons but the increase in homeschooling in metropolitan areas suggests that even the non-religious see advantages of the do it yourself (DYI) approach. Each child can be taught at its level. The quick learner can move at a  faster speed without the boredom of waiting for students who learn at a slower pace. It is a more natural pace and it can be tailored to each child without embarrassment or torment of being too slow or having to wait while another catches up. The children of the American Colonists were educated at home in a rural environment for the most part. They were taught reading, writing, arithmetic, social studies, history, geography, moral and religious values. Moral and religious values are important as they provide framework, boundaries and spiritual truths which set a righteous course and frame of reference for interaction in the populace at large. God teaches us in the same manner. He is a DYI (do it yourself) Heavenly Father. Before he teaches us how to make a living (as secular institutions do), He teaches us how to live. Jesus asked, “What good is it to gain the whole world and lose your soul?” Christ taught us to love one another when He said, “A new commandment I give unto you, That you love one another, as I have loved you.” As He gave his life for us, that we might have eternal life, we are to live our lives in holiness, righteousness and truth like He lived before us. We are to love them who hate us and lead them, by His example in us, to redemption and salvation in Jesus Christ, the Way, the Truth and the Life. He wants us to be rich in the things of the spirit. We learn by talking (prayer), walking (obeying and living his commandments) and learning (meditating) of Him each day. Like our Lord Jesus, more do it yourself parents are homeschooling and finding better results in the education of their children.

We serve a do it yourself God who teaches us His Way, Kochany
