New Shoes – The Imelda Marcos Syndrome

Dearest Eve,

After Imelda Marcos ,wife of deposed Phillippines dictator Ferdinand Marcos, left Malacañang Palace, she was found to have left behind 15 mink coats, 508 gowns, 888 handbags, and 3000 pairs of shoes. Imelda’s footwear are now housed in the Marikina Shoe Museum, along with those of celebrities, personalities, and former presidents. As amazing as these statistics are, many women, the world over, also have an over abundance of shoes in their closet. Most women just love stylish shoes. I know you do honey. This morning as I was having a my morning coffee at Starbucks, a frequent customer walked in for her morning coffee. She is a regular customer and  her mannerisms and attire remind me of you. Like you, she is always well dressed, poised and her attire is stylish, conservative, matching and appropriate. The attribute which always catches my eye most is her endless array of stylish and complimentary shoes. Today she was wearing a pair of black and white low heeled pumps which perfectly matched her black suit and white blouse. Though I don’t know this young woman, it is certain that she, just like you, my Eve, has one or maybe two closets full of shoes. Some of them new shoes (like you Kochana) which she has never worn but purchased for a future wedding she will attend, a special church function or important business meeting. Like you, my Kochana, many of those lovely, colorful footware treasures were so inexpensive that she had to buy them. For certain, her husband, like me, doesn’t understand when she brings home new shoes, even if they were free, or almost free as some women have explained to unbelieving husbands. As time goes by, my love for you has grown so much that I can accept another pair of new shoes because, you have convinced me at last, that you really do need them and that in your endless search for deep discounts and super bargains, you simply had to buy those shoes or they would have surely jumped into one of the other shopping bags you were carrying. Because I have you as my own, I know that this young womans’ husband is a very blessed man, even as I am. You do keep them neat and packaged in the original box in the closets, categorized by style, color and whatever else a woman guages shoe classifications by. Your man does know for certain, that where ever we go, my darling will have the perfect matching shoes for any occasion.  I can be proud to go anywhere at any time with you by my side in your matching, color co-ordinated  new shoes.

P.S.   If you need it, I have a little extra space in my closet for your shoe inventory.
