Each year the North Side Civitan Club sponsors a Christmas Party at the local Boys and Girls club. The children ages 5 to 10 decorate cookies and sing Christmas carols in groups of approximtely 15. This year the boys and girls were separated as the young men become more unruly in mixed company. For the 4th consecutive year, my duty was to play my guitar and lead singing. The kids always want to sing, ‘Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer’, ‘Santa Clause is Coming to Town’, ‘Jingle Bells’, and ‘Silent Night’. All the children are underpriviledged and from lower income households. They sing loudly as they ice their 3 cookies and place sprinkles on top. Some of the cookies are quite artistic. The only rule given to the kids is, ‘do not lick the spreading knives’. A few of the smaller children get as much icing on themselves as on their cookies and need some assistance plus removal of the sticky substance from clothes and hands. It is easy to see how Jesus loved the children and told his disciples, “let the children come to me, for such is the Kingdom of God”. He also said, “the poor you always have with you,” My heart is touched by the innocence of these tender babes living in poverty. God loves them and has instructed those of us with the financial means to give freely in support of those living in financially challenged environments. At this season of cheer, let us remember to give to the poor and love them as Christ Jesus loved the poor when he walked our earth. He still does this from his home in Heaven at the right hand of the Father. Having you in my life makes me a rich man and it is my greatest pleasure to sing Christmas carols with you at home my Kochana. We have a party everyday in the sweet love our heavenly Father gave to us but singing at the Christmas party is a blessing for this man who is so deeply in love with you.
