Star of India

Dear Eva, the woman I buy gems for,

The Star of India is a 563.35 carat star sapphire with a star on both sides of the stone. The greyish blue gem is one of the largest in the world. It was mined in Sri Lanka and is almost flawless. This unusually large gem is on display at the American museum of Natural History in New York City. The gem was donated to the museum in 1900 by wealthy financier, J P Morgan. In 1964 the golf ball sized stone was stolen by the notorious cat burglar Jack Murphy. He was arrested two days later along with two accomplices. The Star of India was recovered two months later in a locker at a Miami, Florida bus station and is again on display at the museum. The theft of the Star of India Sapphire is an example of material treasures which are stolen, often never to be recovered by the owner. We know that we must guard and watch over jewels of great value, even to the point of storing them in secure vaults when we are not wearing or displaying them at family or public events. This is the risk of collecting riches of the earth. Our Lord Jesus cautioned us saying (Mat 6:19-20), “Don’t lay up treasures for yourselves on earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consume, and where thieves do not break through nor steal;”. The things of true value are everlasting and internal. Each of us is a jewel in the crown of Christ which cannot be stolen. You, my Kochana, are a great treasure to me and that is why my prayers are for our safety and protection in the power of God through his son Jesus Christ. We are Gods first and this is our greatest security. The devil would snatch us from our safe sanctuary if he could. But Jesus said (John 10:27-29), ” My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, they follow me; and I give them eternal life, and they will never perish; no-one will snatch them out of my hand. My father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; and no-one is able to snatch them out of the Fathers hand.” As children of the Most High God, we are safe in the sonship of Jesus, the Son of God and secure in the all-powerful hand of God. We are of much more value to God than the Star of India could be to any human on earth.

We are safe and secure in the protective love of God, Kochany
