The Lords’ Prayer

My darling Ewa, precious helpmate in prayer,
We live in the day of lack of effective, meaningful prayer. The lost of the world don’t pray at all. Unfortunately, the many servants of God, in ignorance, pray for themselves first leaving others second and God last of all, for they do not know the character of the only true Most High God, whom they claim to serve. When they pray, they ask in self centered first person requests that bless them even if it would hurt others if the supplication was granted. They make no attempt to align their requests with the immutable will of God Most High. Of a truth, Jesus said, “You have not because you ask not.” However Jesus was speaking of acceptable prayer, that first aligns with the perfect will of God, second blesses all the people of the Most High and glorifies the Holy Father. Many recite what is referred to as the Lords’ prayer in Matthew 6: 9-13: “This then is how you should pray.”

“Our father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy king dom come, thy will be done in earth,
As it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory,
Forever. Amen”

Jesus spoke this prayer as an example to his disciples. It was a model that included a humble and holy approach to the Most High God, a perfect order of God to man and man to God relationship and a reverent request to align our imperfect, naturally rebellious will to the eternal plan of Creator God.  In Luke 11: 5-8, Jesus says, “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, don’t keep babbling on like pagans, for they think that they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” We should always approach our heavenly Father seeking to emulate the mind of Christ, (Philippians 2: 6 – 8) “Who, being in the very nature of God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in the appearance of a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death — even death on a cross.” Our Lord Jesus instructed us in the method of powerful, effective and meaningful prayer and he warned us of the pitfalls of self serving, self centered, ungodly jabbering. His ways are simple, even a fool who aligns his will with God can find the way. His solutions are rational. His way is easy. Jesus said in Luke 11: 28 – 30, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Let us study to find ourselves acceptable in the day of judgement, Kochany
