The Owl in the Tree Top
Dear Eve, my nature lover,
As I finished my evening walk, an owl flew over and landed in a tall tree. He looked down at me as I momentarily stopped to gaze in wonder. Rarely do humans observe owls because they are nocturnal and fly about very little. When they fly it is primarily for food. They have extremely good night vision. If a mouse, rat or snake moves in the general area, they usually become a meal for the patient owl. I wonder why God made the owl, not that I’m questioning His omnicience. The owl is part of His creation. What did they eat before the fall of man, before killing became the modus operandi of creatures of prey. The Word says that after the return of Christ, ‘the wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, and again, ‘the cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox.’ We must remember that in the creation, God designed a world devoid of destruction and violence; all was peace, safety, and interdependence of each species. God left nothing out of His perfect plan. Even the owl I question, and snakes which I hate, were part of the interwoven fabric of life. There was adequate food for each animal and sufficient supplies of the prescribed diet of each animal type. Scripture doesn’t address that topic but reason begs the conclusion that the world order after the return of Christ (the lion will eat straw like the ox) is indicative of the original plan of God. For the return of Christ is really restoration of man to the God intended dominance of the world without evil (the influence of satan the wicked one and ‘father of lies’) along with return to the intended life order for all life forms and the earth. We simply have no concept of the magnificence of life when the new Jerusalem (the holy city) comes down from heaven. As the appostle John said in Revelation, “Even so come Lord Jesus,” for the owl in the tree top and all of creation eagerly await a world perfectly aligned with God, world without end.
We wait for his coming and restoration, Kochany
