The Rabbits on Water Street

My darling Ewa,
This past Tuesday, during my morning walk on Water Street, I chanced upon three tame rabbits. One was grazing along the roadside and the other two were hopping around the yard. As they were out of their cage, my first thought was to tell the owner immediately. I knocked long, loud and persistently, warning the owner, “your rabbits are out of their cage and one is by the street.” after about 3 to 4 minutes, a woman came to the door with a walker and told me that, ‘she allowed the rabbits to graze each day and that they would return to their homes later’. I apologized for waking her, it was 6:30 AM, and continued my on my way.
The rabbits stayed on my mind, as the freedom given to these tame rabbits was much more a hazard to a tame rabbit than a wild one. What about wild dogs, coyotes, cars and the possibility of being picked up by a stranger or getting lost and not returning home? As I retraced my steps past the rabbits, they were grazing and playing in the yard, oblivious to any real or potential danger. Though this strategy was questionable in my mind, it was not unlike the freedoms, moral dangers and associated risks for the people of God our Father, who allows us to make even more dangerous decisions and moral choices. The sanctuary of the rabbits was their cage (home). In their cages, they were safe and secure. They aren’t caged in. Their natural enemies are caged out. Likewise, we are safe and secure in our sanctuary of Jesus Christ. Here we have peace, love and joy with no apprehensions (perfect love casts out all fear). There is no temptation here for we are with our Lord and we only entertain holy thoughts when we are in communion with God. The challenge comes when we leave our sanctuary to venture out into the world. Jesus prayed for us in the Garden of Gethsemane saying, “I ask not that you take them from the world but that you keep them from evil.” He gave those of us, on the after side of the crucifiction, the sealing of the Holy Spirit. The shield of the Holy spirit with the sword of the Word of God enables us to fend off any assault of the enemy (the dogs and coyotes of evil). The danger of cars is the traffic of worldly ideas, fleshly desires and church infiltrators posing as believers. The Holy Spirit opens our spiritual eyes (minds) and strengthens us in our stand against forceful wicked opposition and oppression. The danger of the stranger is satan and his emmisaries, who seek to destroy and capture our soul thereby negating Gods’ message through us. As we cleave to God through Jesus Christ His Son, we know where He is leading (home/closer to Him) and can always find our way home, for in truth, we are always at home in Christ, who is in the Father. The water Street rabbits may be imperiled and lose their lives but we are ever in Christ, our redeemer, savior and protector. Gods’ people are indeed tamed (steeped in the word and loyal to Christ), whereas the children of the evil one are wild (disobedient and rebellious to their creator God). Let us strive to stay under the protective umbrella of the authority of the Most High God like the rabbits on Water Street, for in this is exceeding great reward in Christ.Living in the freedom of God with you, Kochany
