The Way We Were Is the Way We Are

Ewa my love,

We often look back to the past and reminesce the adventure and verility of youth and compare the present day self with the person we were way back then. Some characteristics are obvious. We’re older, we’ve put on weight, we dress differently and we think differently. Those are a just a few of them. But in the basic attributes and character issues one finds that the way we were is the way we are. We are who we are. It is impossible to be anyone else. There is an old adage which says, ‘those who talk of what a stiff necked jerk they used to be have not really changed at all’. Or it has been said that, ‘you can take the boy out of the country but you can’t take the country out of the boy’. In scripture, the book of Proverbs states that ‘the hog has returned to his wallow and the dog has returned to his vomit’. Jesus Christ warned his disciples, ‘Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you’, MAT 7:6. Swine are unclean animals like unbelievers. They make common the holy teachings of a righteous God. When we were formed in the womb we were God’s property. He has fashioned us during the years to complete the work He began in us. He made us the way we are, whether it was yesterday, today of tomorrow. The way we were is the way we are and the way we will be in future days. Because of this principle, God always knows who will answer His call and align their will with His will. We are sheep in the midst of wolves but He is our Shepherd and He will always protect and keep us in his care. God plants His people in the most unlikely places so that His Word will always be proclaimed in the lives of His faithful servants. On October 20, 2009, when we were touring the old World War II Jewish community, I observed and photographed a living pepper plant growing in a meat grinder. This inventive gardener, who made a meat grinder into a flower pot, is like our wise God. He plants his people all over the world in unlikely places. The Eternal Gardener, like my Ewa, knows where every one of his flowers are planted and he waters and attends to them. They pop up like fires in the fabric the the evil plan of satan. When he extinguishes one fire, three more appear somewhere else in their place. God is a master gardener and he made Adam and Eve gardeners in His image. My Ewa was a gardener as a young girl, before she planted her first flower and God knew it because He created her and set a love of life in her heart, mind and soul. Ewa will plant a flower in any and every spot she can find because she loves flowers and she is a master gardener. The pepper plant grownig in an old meat grinder was evidence that God created a gardener in the womb of a mother which proves that ‘the way we were is the way we are.

I like gardening with you, Kochany
