We Could Be Happy in a Yurt

Dear Eva, with such zest for life,
During a conversation with a young couple a few days ago, the topic of unrest and violence in our culture came up. It was interesting that this couple and the brother of the wife were considering getting off the grid. (off the grid means removing oneself form the modern life style of wealth accumulation). Many young college graduates are frustrated with constant cultural wars and the endless battles with political correctness and attacks on religious freedoms and family values. Getting off the grid is one way of escaping the pressure to fit everyone into the same mold. The only way to avoid the daily battle with thought control by society and the upper echelon of influential educators is to get out of Babylon (Babylon means confusion). The complication of city life and high society constraints on personal desires and individual thinking is replaced by a simple life in the country. Large homes which have high taxes, huge heating and air conditioning bills and constant maintenance will be replaced with smaller, moveable, low maintenance and if not attached to the ground, they can be non-taxable (real estate taxes) Yurts, teepees or tents. (since these homes are not attached to the land, they are not taxable as real estate). Yurts are used in the steppes of Asia by nomadic people who move with their herds and disassemble, move and reassemble their home (yurt). In 1993 Oregon became the first state (since then 17 other states have introduced yurt camp grounds, i.e. Jackson Hole Mountain Resort) to have Yurt camp grounds and they have become popular in some ski resorts. In the United States and Canada, yurts are made using hi-tech materials. They are well engineered and built for extreme weather conditions. They can even be provided with solar energy and plumbing. These yurts are not built to move nor are they circular but retain simplicity and low cost maintenance and utilities. As real wages shrink and the cost of living escalates, simple solutions become more apparent to thinkers and people of God. We don’t need the riches of the world. We have the Most High God and He will direct us in a life of fulfillment and happiness with none of the aggravation, pain and agony of fear and uncertainty which riches of the world bring us. For all the wealth with which our God has blessed us, we can be just as happy living in a yurt as long as we have our God and each other. We have been happy, we are happy and we could be happy in a yurt.

Blessed to be one with you, Kochany
