When a Man Loves a Woman

Ewa, My Sweet,

If there ever was a time and situation when a thinking man would throw up his hands in despair and accept the fate of a conquered subject, 1941 Poland was that moment. He had a wife to support, rent to pay, groceries to buy, shoes to make and sell and, yes of course, time with his Kochana Antonina. (You are my kochana also, my darling Ewa) It was impossible for any man to accumulate riches under the iron fist of the occupying Nazis. It took a man and his wife working long hours to eek out a living in war torn Krakow. Wartime uncertainties bring economic slowdowns, as people reduce spending, purchasing only the bare necessities. They hide small amounts of money in the most unlikely places like a mattress.  If the Nazis came and searched their home they were certain to take anything of value. Under these circumstances, it was a luxury to dream. But his Antonina had a dream. He had promised her that he would buy that plot of land by the Rudawa River and build her dream home. That was the dream of the woman he loved and revered. Her dream had become his dream. When a man loves a woman, he can’t keep his mind on anything else. (I remember those days when our love was young) He will walk through hell just to see her smile. Antonina had a lovely smile. He often expressed his deep admiration for her with a grand Polish gesture by taking her hand in his, bending to tenderly kiss her hand and saying, “Całuje Raczki” (I kiss your hand). When a man loves a woman, she is his queen. With her, he is a king. This is the power of love that it can enable two to become one and overcome all obstacles, under impossible circumstances. This kind of commitment qualifies us to the blessing and approval of the Most High God because this is the true spirit of God. He is always with us when we look to Him and believe in the impossible. What is impossible for man is always possible for God. He opens the door of opportunity to those who reach beyond themselves. Our outstretched hand of faith reaches those opportunities which God wisely located behind the wall of doubt. Antoni began to work toward the Marzenie (my dream) of Antonina. With the goal in their heart and mind they began the work to accumulate the money to purchase their dream home. It was an impossible dream but when a man loves a woman, she inspires him to fulfill her dreams. He wants above all else to please her and share her happiness. You inspire me my precious Ewa. You were a dream come true to me and we became one. We have had our dreams (some are not yet fulfilled) and we have worked to fulfill them and reach out in faith to God to bring about the completion of our mission. I am happy and content with you. When a man loves a woman, being with her makes all his dreams come true.
