Winston Churchill – The English Bulldog

My precious Ewa,

The only enemy Hitler could not defeat was Great Britain under the leadership of Winston Churchill, the English Bulldog. He rallied the British nation when they were militarily on their knees with his dogged determination in the face of hopelessness. The Nazi’s had built the greatest war machine in the history of man and they marched through eastern and western Europe in less than one year. On September 1, 1939, Poland was invaded and subdued within a few short weeks with Germany attacking from the west and Russia invading from the east. Poland was divided between Russia and Germany. On 10 May 1940 France was attacked and an armistice was signed, setting up a puppet German government, on 18 June 1940. Nazi bombing of Britain began with the London Blitz also hitting other strategic parts of England on 7 September 1940 and ended on 11 May 1941. During these devastating times, Britain had very few fighter planes to defend against the massive waves of enemy bombers. The people were discouraged. They were beaten. They were fighting against a vastly superior German air force who were better trained, better supplied, better equipped with better armaments and more advanced technology. But Winston Churchill would not let the nation give up without a fight. He boldly and fearlessly stood up against the Nazi menace and encouraged his beleaguered countrymen to carry on the battle. Most importantly, he believed in the Most High God and trusted that men who stood on Godly principles could endure any godless onslaught of the hordes of hell. In a speech he delivered 4 June, 1940, he said, “We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills, we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this island or part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in Gods good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and liberation of the old.” Churchill knew that if the British people did all that they could do, then God Almighty would smash the Nazi tyranny. God raised up Winston Churchill, the English bulldog, to defeat and overcome Adolph Hitler the Nazi weasel. Churchill was right, for in Gods good time, the American nation to the west provided the power and might to deliver the European Democracies from atheistic totalitarianism. Winston Churchill was an unlikely choice to lead a defeated nation. But he was God’s man for that hour. God always has an unlikely man for the hour of decision. God allowed the godless authoritarian governments to plunder and destroy until they were ripe for devastation. Then judgment fell, as it always does on evil men. In the hour of decision, God chooses decisive men, like Winston Churchill. These persons are overlooked by the men of their generation, but God knows that all the while the world ignored his instrument, they were being trained in everyday life to prevail in the hour of peril. God was trying them, testing them in failure to lift them up in courage to risk another failure. God foresees the needs and He has his man prepared when the need arises. In the final analysis, it was not Winston Churchill, Great Britain, the United States, Canada or any of the other Allied Nations that defeated Nazi Germany, fascist Italy and militaristic Japan. It was the Most High God, working through his servants. He is always standing in the shadows, keeping watch over his own. Let us give Him eternal glory and praise. It is right to give him glory and praise for He alone is worthy of praise.

In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we give thanks and praise, Kochany
